Once properly installed and set up, an online mailing list can reduce the work of running an email newsletter to simply creating the emails. All the subscription handling - people joining and leaving the list - can be automated. If you collect a list of emails, eg. at an event or a trade show, all you need to do is type it in. The list software ensures that all your participants 'opt in', keeping you on the right side of anti-spam regulation. eMails you send through the list include an 'unsubscribe link' so that list members can remove themselves by clicking, and it can even be set up automatically to process members' replies that say 'remove me'. Bounce handling is automated too, so that addresses which have been dead for a while are removed from the list.
Mailing lists are quite complicated to set up and it's likely to be something you only have to do once, so instead of spending days getting your head round it, I can do it for you.
If you already have a website (and hosting with CGI support), I can add a mailing list for you and make it look like the rest of the site. Here's an example using Dadamail.
The hosting we provide comes with Mailman, which can also be used as a discussion list. Here's an example using Mailman.
